Common Data Collection Instrumentation Pitfalls

There are a few common threads we’ve observed over the years with clients and web analytics implementations:

One scenario that we’ve seen is that they over-implement their analytics tool leading to situations where they have more data they know what to do with.

Another is that they never truly finish the implementation phase preventing them from moving into the maturation and maintenance phase. This causes those organizations to be in a constant state of implementation preventing them from gaining insights from the data.

The third, and at the other end of the spectrum, is the scenario where the implementation is viewed as something that is “set it and forget it” leading to data decay over time.

What other pitfalls exist?

What can organizations do to prevent themselves from falling into these traps?

On this episode of the 33 Tangents podcast, Jenn, Jason and Jim look at the scenarios above, discuss what they’ve seen lead organizations to get stuck in them, and ways to avoid them.
